St Josephs Hockey Tournament

On Wednesday 4th March 10 pupils from St. Joseph’s went to Thomas Gainsborough School (TGS) to compete in a hockey tournament against 6 other primary school teams. We were split into 2 teams and then put into separate groups.  Group 1 was St. Joseph’s B, Nayland A, Long Melford and Bures .  Group 2 was St. Joseph’s A, Nayland B, Boxford and Wells Hall. Both groups were extremely close and group 1 had to go to goal difference to decide who went to the semi-finals.  St. Joseph’s B came 1st, Bures came 2nd, Nayland A came 3rd and Long Melford came 4th. Group 2 also went to goal difference, Nayland B came 1st, Boxford came 2nd, Wells Hall came 3rd and St. Joseph’s A came 4th.

The semi-finals were:

St. Joseph’s B vs Boxford

Nayland B vs Bures.

The 2 3rd places played each other so it was Nayland A vs Wells Hall.

The 2 4th places played each other so it was Long Melford vs St. Joseph’s A.

Boxford beat St. Joseph’s B and Nayland B beat Bures.

St. Joseph’s A lost to Long Melford. Nayland A beat Wells Hall.

So this meant that the final was between Boxford and Nayland B and the 3rd place play off was between St. Joseph’s B and Bures.

There was nothing between the teams in both matches so it went to extra time as the scores were 0-0 after normal time.  The final score was St. Joseph’s B 0 – Bures 0 both teams came joint 3rd.

But congratulations to Nayland B who won the competition after beating Boxford 1-0.

Everyone played very well and tried their hardest.

A big thank you to Mr Leighton-Scott and Mrs Hertz who took us to the tournament.

Cricket Report

By Isaac & Stanley

On Friday 15th May, St Joseph’s School Sudbury played a cricket match against Great Waldingfeild School.

The children representing St Josephs were:

Kai, Isaac, Stanley, Rosalind, Sid, George, Harry, Tommy

Mr LS took us even though he was exhausted from his trip away!  Mrs Homes also came, with both showing their usual competitiveness!

Although this was a friendly both teams played to the best of their ability with some amazing fielding by Kai catching 3 balls.  Rosalind played her first cricket match for the school and put in a great effort.

St Joseph were victorious, but only just….

Athletics Report

On Friday 10th July, 10 pupils: Fern H, Hayley P, Erin R, Lucy L, Rose D, George B, Sid H, Kai C, Hugo H and Bradley F, competed in the Sainsburys school games county final athletics quad kids tournament. Twenty schools competed including St Louis in Newmarket [Mrs Price's old school] and Britannia, who won the previous county finals. In the 600m for boys Kai came 1st with an outstanding time, and in the girls race Rose came first in a close finish just edging away in the final metres. As we were waiting for the results to be announced we were able to get an autograph of a former Olympian (Andrew Badley). Finnaly when the results came in we found uot we finished 16th in the County which is one one better than last year. We mustn’t forget to thank Mr L-S and Mrs Hertz for bringing us and cheering us on, we couldn’t have done it without them. A final thank you to Mrs Holmes for training us so well!
